Man, 36, Killed In Possible Racing Crash
A crash that claimed the life of a St. Petersburg man involved a 15-year-old driver and possible racing, police say.

PINELLAS PARK, FL — The Pinellas Park Police Department is investigating a multiple-vehicle crash that claimed the life of a 36-year-old man on Tuesday night.
According to the agency, the crash occurred around 11:05 p.m. June 27 in the 6300 block of North Park Boulevard. Authorities say a red 2004 Mazda 3 and a 2014 Nissan “were driving at a high rate of speed on Park Boulevard” at that time.

A third vehicle pulled onto Park Boulevard, authorities say, causing “one of the speeding vehicles to change lanes and sideswipe the other speeding vehicle.” The action caused the Mazda, which was being driven by a 15-year-old girl, to leave the road and hit a tree, an email from the police department said.
Police say there were six people inside the Mazda. Five of them were teenagers. The sixth was Glenis Mullins III of St. Petersburg. Mullins died at the scene. The five teenagers were all hospitalized with injuries believed to be not life-threatening.

Authorities say Andrew Lightsey, 27, of St. Petersburg was behind the wheel of the Nissan. The driver of the third vehicle is not being identified as police determined that person was not involved, the agency reported.
“Investigators are looking into the possibility that the two vehicles were racing each other,” the email said. Police noted that the people in the two cars, however, did not know each other.
The crash remains under investigation with possible criminal charges pending.
No further information is being released at this time.
