Manhattan Casino Lease up for Vote Thursday

Manhattan Casino, Obama Leading in Florida, FWC Hunting Season, PSTA Receives Grant and Patch Newsletters are five things you need to know today.

1. On Thursday, the St. Petersburg City Council will vote on a proposed 50-year lease with Urban Development Solutions to operate the historic Manhattan Casino. The proposal would have , run on the ground floor of the establishment with a banquet room operating on the second floor. 

2. A new Survey USA poll in Florida finds President Obama leading Mitt Romney by five points in the important battleground state, 48% to 43%. However, in the U.S. Senate race, Rep. Connie Mack leads Sen. Bill Nelson by six points, 48% to 42%.

3. On Tuesday, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission announced the 2012-13 hunting season dates. Dates vary by which part of the state you live in. South Pinellas and St. Petersburg is in zone C while parts of north Pinellas and Tampa are in zone B. Check out to see when you can hunt.

4. The Federal Transit Administration has awarded PSTA 2.6 million to replace aging buses in the transit agency’s fleet. The funding is part of the nation’s State of Good Repair program, which helps transit agencies keep vehicles in safe operating condition. Once these new buses arrive ‐ in approximately one year ‐nearly one out of every five of PSTA’s buses will be a fuel efficient, diesel-electric hybrid.
