Mocha Vida Cafe Puts a Modern Spin on Coffee House Tradition
Offering teas, coffees and chocolates under one roof, the Mocha Vida Cafe might become addictive to patrons.

From Costa Rican coffees to organic teas, Jeff Sprinkmann knows his stuff. Sprinkmann is owner of Mocha Vida Cafe, at 10468 Roosevelt Blvd. He strives to offer guests a friendly atmosphere while still appealing to the coffee house crowd.
Sprinkmann studied environmental science and biology at Eckerd College, where he learned the importance of a sustainable society. “I’m really trying to be a force for positive social change in the community,” said Sprinkmann.
Although the coffees, teas and chocolates are his specialty, Sprinkmann and company also offer free wi-fi, vegetarian tapas and live music from local artists. After applying for an alcohol license recently, the Mocha Vida Cafe hopes to offer beer and wine in the near future.
On the weekends, Sprinkmann transforms the coffee shop into a music venue. The Mocha Vida Cafe, which is just south of the Gandy Bridge, has a little something for everyone throughout the week:
- Thursdays: Open mic/Drum jam
- Fridays: Reggae night
- Saturdays: Salsa/Latin night
Sprinkmann says he is trying to do something “creative and unique” with the opening of the cafe. “I like to support local artists and musicians,” he said. The cafe’s music nights give local names the chance to shine.
Aside from the extensive beverage list, Mocha Vida Cafe offers breakfast all day long. Bagels, muffins, Belgian waffles and fresh quiche are some of the items up for grabs. Sweets like truffles, pastries and root beer floats can also be purchased.
Mocha Vida Cafe is open from 7:30 am to 10 pm, Monday-Friday and on Saturday from 9 am- 10 pm.
