Cake Factory Rises in St. Pete

The Cake Factory has been around since 2004 and just opened a new location on 4th Street North with owners Jeannette Cando and Danieel Delgado striving for greatness.

For Jeannette Cando and Danieel Delgado making cakes is all in the family. The mother and son duo has brought The Cake Factory to life and proven its longevity in St. Petersburg.

Cando is the baker while Delgado deals with the business end. Originally from Venezuela, the two juggle language barriers and creative expression to create a business match made in heaven.

The Cake Factory was launched in Orlando in 2004, but after relocating to St. Pete in 2009, they found a place to call home.

Delgado came to the coast alone because he wanted to be near the beach. After a few months, Cando followed her son to the 'burg where they opened a new location for their growing business.

For Cando, baking is not just a hobby or a career; it’s an art form that she takes very seriously. “Sometimes what she does is considered beautiful artwork,” said her son, Delgado. “She doesn’t see it as baking, she sees it as art.”

Sweet 16s, weddings and baby showers are just some of the many occasions The Cake Factory caters.

Aside from masterful cakes, Cando also makes gourmet cupcakes. They come in three sizes: mini, classic and original. A large variety of flavors are offered for both cakes and cupcakes.

Using only the freshest and top of the line ingredients, Delgado says that The Cake Factory deals with a more high-end clientele. “

Our cakes are not frozen and they are customized,” he said. “In other stores they might tell you ‘no’, but we can pretty much do anything.”

Delgado says there’s no comparison to a chain grocery store and The Cake Factory. “If you can dream it, we can make it,” he said.
