UPDATE: Details Released about Fatal Crash, Armed Robbery, Police Pursuit
St. Petersburg Police say one person died and the other taken to a hospital with serious injuries after the driver fled from police and crashed into a tree.

St. Peterbsurg Police have released the names of the two suspects involved in an armed robbery, police pursuit and fatal crash.
Alfonso Eugene Mackey, 31, of St. Petersburg, is currently at Bayfront Medical Center with non-life threatenng injuries, police say.

According to the release, Mackey was driving the vehicle, when he crashed into a tree Thursday night.
The passenger, Dijon Senay Jackson, 19, of Pittsburg, PA, died in the crash, police say. Investigators believe she has been in town for several weeks on vacation.

Alfonso Eugene Mackey will be be charged with the Armed Robbery to the Family Dollar store, Fleeing and Eluding and other charges for the traffic fatality after he is released from the hospital, according to the press release.

St. Petersburg Police say two suspects fled from police Thursday night and crashed into a tree. One person died and the other taken to a local hospital with serious injuries sometime after 8 p.m. last night.
Just before 8 p.m. Thursday night, St. Petersburg Police responded to a call of an armed robbery at the Family Dollar Store at 1720 16th St. N. A customer from inside called for help and told officials two people were robbing the clerk and one of them had fired one shot during the armed robbery, according to the press release.
The suspects fled before officers arrived, according to police.
A witness gave officials a description of the vehicle and officers began
searching the area for the suspect's vehicle, police say.
About ten minutes later, undercover detectives from the Department's CASE unit
(a surveillance team) spotted the suspect's vehicle approximately in the area
of 5th Ave S and 28th St. S and followed it for several minutes.
The CASE unit requested a marked police cruiser to conduct a traffic stop on
the suspect's vehicle, according to the press release.
A marked police cruiser attempted to stop the suspect's vehicle in the area of
6th Avenue South and 44th Street South, but the suspect's vehicle sped away
from the marked cruiser.
Police supervisor's authorized the officer in the marked cruiser to pursue the
suspect's vehicle, police say.
Moments later, the suspect's vehicle crashed into a tree at 15th Avenue South
and 40th Street South, according to Police Spokesperson Bill Proffitt.
One person died at the scene and the other taken to the hospital with serious injuries, police say.
Officers found a firearm from inside of the suspect's vehicle that matches
the firearm used in the armed robbery at the Family Dollar store.
