Pier Ballot Workshop Today

Pier Ballot, Domestic Partnership Registry, Bush Tax Cuts, PSTA and Patch Newsletters are five things you need to know today.

1. At 9 a.m. today at City Hall, City Council will host a workshop to come up with questions for the Nov. 6 presidential ballot in regards to the future of the St. Petersburg Pier. Two weeks ago, after VoteOnThePier.com reached . On Aug. 2, a public hearing will be held and the official vote taken on whether or not the future of the pier will be made by the public. 

2. Beginning August 1, adults who are in a domestic partnership relationship may register with the Office of the City Clerk. Official registration follows the passing of the Domestic Partnership Registry ordinance passed June 7.

3. Outside the Vinoy today, dozens of protesters will be for people that make more than $250,000 a year. The protest begins at 11 a.m. amid a looming vote from the U.S. House or Representatives about the future of the Bush tax cuts.

4. At its monthly meeting, Wednesday, July 25, 2012, the Board of Directors for the Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority has approved construction of the agency’s first new customer service center in more than a decade. The Board unanimously voted to build the new facility in Pinellas Park to help accommodate the increased demand for customer service brought about by years of increasing and record setting ridership.
