PSTA Awarded $2.6 million to Replace Aging Buses

PSTA Gets $2.6 million, Azalea Park Construction, Amberjack Season, Operation Wolf Pack Results and Patch Newsletters are five things you need to know today.

1. The Federal Transit Administration has awarded PSTA 2.6 million to replace aging buses in the transit agency’s fleet. The funding is part of the nation’s State of Good Repair program, which helps transit agencies keep vehicles in safe operating condition. Once these new buses arrive ‐ in approximately one year ‐nearly one out of every five of PSTA’s buses will be a fuel efficient, diesel-electric hybrid.

2. Starting today, motorists traveling in the area of Azalea Park will need to make a slight route adjustment to accommodate work on a neighborhood drainage project. Motorists will find 74th St. N. between 13th and 16th Aves. N. closed to through traffic during the project, which is expected to last through Friday, August 3. A planned detour of 13th Ave. N. east to 72nd St., north on 72nd St. to 16th Ave., then west back to 74th St. N. will be in place. Only local traffic will be allowed inside the construction zone. 

3. Greater amberjack will open for recreational harvest in Gulf of Mexico state and federal waters Aug. 1. The season closes annually June 1. The minimum size limit for greater amberjack in Gulf of Mexico waters is 30 inches fork length, which is measured from the tip of the fish’s closed mouth to the center of the fork in the tail. In Atlantic state waters, the size limit is 28 inches fork length.

4. The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office has released results of last weekend's DUI checkpoints as part of its "Operation Wolf Pack". According to the Sheriff's Office, the countywide operation that ran Friday night resulted in six DUIs, two driving while license suspended/revoked, 10 citations and two written warnings.
