School Bus Driver Arrested For DUI After Hit-And-Run Crash

A bus carrying seven middle school students was involved in a Tuesday hit and run crash on 54th Avenue North.

PINELLAS COUNTY, FL — A Pinellas County School bus driver was charged with DUI Tuesday after she was involved in a hit-and-run crash on 54th Avenue North. There were seven middle school age children onboard the bus at the time.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the school bus driven by Dorothy Lynn Burse, 56, of Largo was heading west in the inside lane of 54th Avenue North around 3 p.m. Jan. 3. When the bus stopped for a red light at 66th Street North, it was struck by a Nissan from behind, a patrol report said.

After the minor crash, troopers say the driver of the Nissan fled.

No injuries were reported. The children on the bus were students at Lealman Innovative, the patrol said.

Following the crash, troopers charged Burse with DUI.

The search for the motorist who caused the crash remains active. Anyone with information about the driver or vehicle is asked to call the highway patrol at 813-631-4020.
