Seen Air Guitar? Now There's Air Sex

If you've ever seen a performer shredding an air guitar, then you will understand the idea behind comedian Chris Trew's air sex competitions.

Thursday night, Trew and the Air Sex Championship crew will be at Local 662 in downtown St. Petersburg to host a one-of-a-kind tournament.

The winner will get free airfare to a regional competition and the chance to win the pro-wrestling style championship belt, according to ABC News.

This kinky kind of karaoke involves participants going on stage and emulating sexual acts. Trew says that they can bring an invisible friend or go solo.

Judging from a promotional video on YouTube, the Air Sex competitions seem to draw more men than women and are popular with the college circuit crowd.

Similar competitions that the New Orleans comedian hosted in Denver were shut down. A crowd in Boston was too shy to participate.

Trew is hoping for a different turnout in Florida.

Standout performers may be invited to join a national touring group that Trew hopes to form. The next stops for the Air Sex Championship games are Orlando, Savannah and Charleston.

While some critics around the country have described these shows as pornographic, Trew sees potential – as performance art and comedy. He describes air sex as the ultimate in safe sex.
