St. Pete Beach Man Killed By Drunk Driver: Deputies
A 40-year-old man was killed by a drunk driver Saturday night while walking on a sidewalk near St. Pete Beach, according to deputies
ST PETE BEACH, FL - A 40-year-old man was killed by a drunk driver Saturday night while walking on a sidewalk near St. Pete Beach, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office. The man was identified as Peter Chenhall of St. Pete Beach.
The driver of the car was identified as Carolyn Yovan, 51, of South Pasadena. She was charged with driving under the influence manslaughter, leaving the scene of a crash with death and driving with a suspended license. She was arrested about 10:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 17.
About 7 p.m. Saturday, Chenhall was walking on the sidewalk near the intersection of Captiva Circle and Blind Pass Road in St Pete Beach when a 2004 Lexus RX330 driven by Yovan drove up on sidewalk and struck Chenhall, deputies said. Paramedics transported Chenhill to Bayfront Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Investigators say Yovan fled after the first crash and caused a second crash about two miles south at Gulf Boulevard and Gulf Winds Drive in St Pete Beach. No one was injured in the second crash.
Through witness accounts, investigators confirmed the two crashes were related. Investigators say that Yovan showed signs of impairment at the scene of the second crash and refused to provide breath samples. Yovan was arrested and taken to the Pinellas County Jail.
