St. Pete Boy Critical After Friday Crash
Police say a 9-year-old boy was crossing the road Friday afternoon when he was hit by a truck.

ST. PETERSBURG, FL — The St. Petersburg Police Department is investigating a crash that sent a 9-year-old boy to the hospital Friday with critical injuries.
According to the agency, Da’shia Austin was crossing Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street South around 4:17 p.m. Dec. 16. As Austin ran from the median in the 1300 block, he was hit by a Ford F150 pickup truck, an email from the agency said.
Austin was taken to All Children’s Hospital in critical condition. The driver of the truck, Theodore Demps, 67, stayed on the scene and cooperated with authorities, the email said.

“There were no signs of impairment,” the agency noted.
The crash remains under investigation with no charges announced at this time.
