ST. PETERSBURG, FL — A St. Petersburg cop with a knack for closing cases has been named the agency’s 2016 Officer of the Year.

Cameron has been a St. Pete officer since 2003 and serves on the agency’s Violent Crimes Task Force.

The agency explained he was nominated for the honor because of his “ability to gain voluntary confessions and is often asked to interview difficult subjects.” The agency also credits his leadership and investigative skills for helping to close “more than 100 auto thefts reaching as far back as 2014,” according to a Thursday statement from the police department.
