St. Pete Woman Struck, Killed Crossing Street

A woman was killed after being struck by a car Monday night as she crossed 66th Street North in the Lealman area of St. Petersburg, authorities said.

Linda Mae Lambert, 65, of St. Petersburg, was crossing the southbound lanes outside of a crosswalk around 9:09 p.m. when she was hit by a 2005 Hummer headed north, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report.

The driver, 35-year-old Jeremy Allen Burch of St. Petersburg, was "unable to observe the pedestrian" and "despite an unsuccessful attempt to steer away from a collision," he struck Lambert, Sgt. Steve Gaskins said in a media release.

Lambert suffered fatal injuries and died at Northside Hospital, Gaskins said.

Alcohol was not a factor in the accident, according to the highway patrol's report. No charges were immediately reported.
