St. Petersburg OKs $45M For Affordable Housing, Health: Report

The money comes from the American Rescue Plan Act​.

ST. PETERSBURG, FL — St. Petersburg City Council approved millions of dollars Thursday to help with affordable housing, multiple news outlets report.

The money comes from the American Rescue Plan Act. Signed into law nearly a year ago, it's designed to combat the COVID-19 pandemic, including the public health and economic impacts.

WTSP-TV reports that $34 million will go toward affordable housing and $11 million to health and social equity.

According to the Tampa Bay Times, the first $10 million of ARPA funding will go to two projects: $6.5 million on the Deuces Rising Townhome Development and $3.5 million to the Housing Capital Improvement Fund.

Funding for infrastructure, public safety and economic recovery was reduced to zero, the newspaper reports.

The city will receive half of the ARPA funding this year and the remainder next summer. It must allocate the resources by Dec. 31, 2024, The Catalyst said.
