Suspicious Death Under Investigation In St. Pete

Conflicting witness statements have St. Petersburg Police questioning a 48-year-old man's Tuesday death.

ST. PETERSBURG, FL — The Tuesday afternoon death of a St. Petersburg man in a backyard on 9th Avenue South is under investigation.

According to the St. Petersburg Police Department, officers were called to the backyard of a home in the 1700 block of 9th Avenue South around 2:30 p.m. Dec. 20. Police were initially told the man had suffered a possible heart attack.

Fire rescue personnel also responded. They tried to revive the 48-year-old man, but were unsuccessful, an email from police said.

“Due to several conflicting statements from witnesses, police are now investigating it as a suspicious death,” the email said.

As of 3:30 p.m., the intersection of 9th Avenue South and 18th Street was closed due to the investigation.

Police are not releasing further information at this time, including the victim’s name.
