Teen Mud Wars Start Today

Teen Mud Wars, Rio Vista Park Proposal, Sunrise Summer Sale, Saltwater Fishing and Patch Newsletters are five things you need to know today

1. Last weekend thewrapped up at Spa Beach on today and Thursday, Teen Mud Wars is taking over. Today, July 18, is only open to teens enrolled in city of St. Petersburg Recreation Camps. Teens will compete in eight arenas of games which include: obstacle course, joust pit, belly bumper pit, mud tug-o-war, football, the eliminator, dodge ball, and one new foam event with music, and more extreme excitement - all in the mud. The teams are competing for cash and prizes: $500 1st place, $250 2nd place, $100 3rd place.

Extreme Mudwars is for teens who are entering 7 through 12 grade, have at least four females on the team and have no fear! Old shoes and clothes are recommended. 

On Thursday, July 19, day 2, mud wars is open to any outside organization or group of teens who bring their own team of 10 to 12 active teen participants to register and compete. This second day is open to youth organizations in Pinellas Country and to the public – other than city of St. Petersburg camps. The cost is $5 per participant for day 2. The cost is $5 per participant or $50 per team. Concessions sold. For more information, contact Shawn Drouin at727-892-5060.

2. The next public forum is to discuss conceptual plans for the design of the proposed park at Rio Vista Elementary School, located in the northeastern section of the city. On Wednesday, July 25, the Rio Vista forum begins at 7 p.m. and will be held at nearby St. Petersburg Presbyterian Church, at 600 83rd Ave. NE.

3. Roll out of bed early on Thursday for the 39th Annual Sunrise Summer Sale, which kicks off at 6:43 a.m. Thursday. Wake up and head into St. Pete's fabulous downtown shops for a great day of fun and fantastic deals at Downtown St. Petersburg's biggest Pajama Party. The Downtown Business Association urges you to wear your 'jammies and come downtown to SHOP.

4. If you go saltwater fishing in this state, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) researchers want to learn about your experiences and opinions through the new online Florida Saltwater Fishing Panel. Anyone with a valid Florida saltwater fishing license or Persons with Disabilities Resident Hunting and Fishing License, as well as exempt residents age 65 and older, can sign up to take part in the panel, which begins this summer.  Those licensed anglers who have not received an email can sign up at  fwcsaltwaterfishingpanel.com, by clicking “Register for the Panel.”
