Vandals Damage 4 Murals In St. Petersburg

Someone is throwing gray paint on the colorful wall murals, police said

ST. PETERSBURG, FL - Police are investigating a number of similar vandalism cases damaging four murals in St. Petersburg in the last three weeks. Someone is throwing gray paint on the colorful wall murals, police said.

The suspects, a man and a woman with their faces covered, were spotted on surveillance cameras and seen walking near 226 MLK St. N. (near Planet Retro records).

The murals are a total loss artistically and a huge loss for the community, police said. Anyone with information should contact St. Petersburg police at 893-7780.

The murals destroyed are:

  • "Stop & Shop" (gray paint thrown on the mural resulting in a total loss of the mural and well over $1,000 in damage.); located at 432 1st St. N.; damaged overnight between Jan. 13-14.
  • "Planet Retro Records" (gray paint thrown on mural resulting in a total loss of the mural and more than $1,000 in damage.); located at 226 Dr. Martin Luther King St. N.;
  • "Story Brook Craft Coffee Bar" (gray paint thrown on the mural resulting in a total loss of the mural and estimated to be $200 in damage.) 1437 4th St. S.;
  • (Warehouse) (gray paint thrown on mural resulting in a total loss of the mural and estimated to be $5,000 in damage.) at 2338 Emerson Ave. S.
