PINELLAS COUNTY, FL — While New Year's Day is often a day to recover from the previous night's festivities, if you do plan to head out, it's good to know how the holiday may affect the availability of services in St. Petersburg and Pinellas County.

New Year's Day is one of several holidays that usually affect the hours of government offices, libraries, public transportation, garbage pickup and other services in Pinellas County.

To help you plan, here's a roundup of what's open and what's closed on New Year's Day in our area:

Pinellas County offices and facilities: Most will be closed Friday and Monday.

Disposal Facility/Scalehouse: Open Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., closed Saturday.

Garbage/Recycling: Clearwater-No changes to the city's collection schedules for solid waste and recycling pickups for residential and commercial service. St. Petersburg-Thursday collections will be made on Wednesday. Friday collections will be made on Thursday. For other Pinellas County cities, check your city's website.

Libraries: All libraries will be closed Friday and Saturday.

St. Pete City Hall & Municipal Services: Closed New Year's Day

St. Pete Sunshine Center: Closed Friday and Saturday.

St. Petersburg Recreation Centers: Closed New Year's Day

Boyd Hill Nature Preserve: Closed Saturday.

Municipal Marina Ship's Store Neighborhood Pools: Open

Clearwater City Hall and facilities: Closed Friday and Saturday.

Pinellas County Schools: Schools return from winter break Jan. 4

Pinellas County Animal Services: Closed Friday and Saturday

The Pinellas County Parks and Conservation Resources Administration Office, Heritage Village and the education centers will also be closed Friday and Saturday. County Parks and Preserves, Fort De Soto Park, County boat ramps and beach access will remain open on both days

Because administration offices are closed Friday and Saturday, annual beach and boat ramp parking permits will be available for sale online.
