World of Beer Opens New Location in Downtown St. Pete
The World of Beer is a favorite spot for beer enthusiasts and is set to open up next week at First Avenue South and Fourth Street.
World of Beer is a craft beer emporium. With well over 400 bottled beers and 40 draught selections in stock, there is no place in town quite like it, except for the World of Beer on Fourth Street. Next Tuesday will be the official grand opening of the hot spot. It will be located where Paddy Burke’s use to dwell (100 Fourth St. South). They don’t just offer beer, so check out what else the World of Beer can bring to the table.
Tegan Foster, area support manager for World of Beer, sat down with Patch to talk about his popular line of work.
Q: What is World of Beer?
WOB: World of Beer is a craft beer specialty bar. You won’t find a Bud Light or Michelob Ultra here. We are all about speciality beers from around the world.
Q: Why open a location in Downtown St. Pete?
WOB: We’ve seen the area continually change and evolve and get better. Downtown St. Pete is the place to be and this was something that needed to be done.
Q: What makes World of Beer different from other drinking destinations?
WOB: Our selection is a no brainer- when you walk in the door, right away you have 550 beers to choose from. We also focus on what we like to call “WOB Culture” which is our dedication to live music. Every Friday, Saturday and Sunday we will have some sort of live music going on; whether it’s a band, a solo artist or an acoustic set.
Q: So, what happens when people are out drinking at World of Beer and they get hungry?
WOB: We have partnered with a number of area food establishments so that people can get food without ever leaving their bar stool. You can be sitting with five people and let’s say you want a burrito, I want sushi, they want pizza and the next person wants a burger; we can all have exactly what we want without relocating. On board so far we have Fortunato’s, Crowley’s, Burrito Boarder, Cafe Alma and Acropolis.
Q: As far as service goes, what can people expect when they come to World of Beer?
WOB: Prior to our opening, all of our employees go through a 2-week-long beer school. From the managerial staff down to the bar-backs, everyone completes this course. We teach about the 67 styles we carry and go over every bottle of beer. Our staff is knowledgeable on every beer that we carry.
Q: Why should people come to World of Beer?
WOB: The selection is great. We also have a lot more to offer than just beer. From the food option to the friendly staff to the live music, there is something for everyone here. We really pride ourselves on being a neighborhood-type bar that people love to be a part of.
Q: So, live music, food, beer, wine, fun staff… anything else people should know?
WOB: We focus on beer mostly, but sports are another element of World of Beer. We have the NFL Sunday Ticket, so that’s an option for customers. Whatever sporting event is going on, we will have it on whether it’s the Super Bowl, the World Series or the World Cup.
Q: When does this new location open?
WOB: Monday, November 21 we will be having our “Facebook Party” and all of our Facebook fans can come and enjoy a sort of “sneak peak” of the place. Our first official day being open to the public will be on Tuesday, November 22.
Q: Once you open up, what will the hours of operation be?
WOB: Monday through Friday will be from 3 pm - 3 am. Saturday and Sunday we will be open from noon until 3 am.
Q: In five words or less, what’s the most important thing people should know about World of Beer?
WOB: The quality of our products
