Wrong-Way Crash On I-175, Driver Accused Of DUI: Highway Patrol

ST. PETERSBURG, FL —A crash occurred when a 28-year-old Bradenton man drove his car in the wrong direction on Interstate-175 Sunday afternoon in St. Petersburg while allegedly driving under the influence, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The suspect, Thiago Dos Santos, drove in the opposite direction of the eastbound lanes of I-175 after 3:30 p.m., investigators said. At the same time, another vehicle headed southbound on the Interstate-275 exit ramp to I-175 eastbound. The cars crashed into each other, and the victim's car flipped over after it hit the inside barrier wall.

A 28-year-old Bradenton man was arrested on DUI charges and other charges after troopers said he traveled the wrong way on I-175 in St. Pete causing a crash Sunday.

Authorities said Santos ran from the location, and was later found at 801 Sixth Avenue South.

Santos was arrested on the following charges according to the Florida Highway Patrol:

  • Driving under the influence with injury
  • Reckless driving leaving the scene of a crash with injury
  • Driving the wrong direction

Both drivers experienced minor injuries, according to troopers.
