2 Georgia Restaurants Make New York Times 'Restaurants List'

Two Georgia restaurants are among "the 50 places in the United States that we're most excited about right now," the Times said.

GEORGIA — The culinary scene in Georgia has always been full of flavor and rich in taste.

The Peach State's cuisine has historically been one rooted in Southern culture, from its diverse fine dining restaurant menus to its homemade mom and pop dishes.

Two of Georgia's eateries were listed on the New York Times' "The Restaurant List."

"It wasn’t easy to narrow it down, but here are the 50 restaurants that excite us most right now," the Times wrote.

Be it as it may, Bomb Biscuits in Atlanta and Brochu's Family Tradition in Savannah made the cut.

Kim Severson wrote that Bomb Biscuits is a tribute to "a long line of Black women who cook," including the owner's grandmother. The Old Fourth Ward eatery is led by Erika Council, who also owns Mama Dip's Country Kitchen in North Carolina.

Severson said "the thing to get is the Glori-Fried Chicken Biscuit." The dish features a thigh that has been marinated in spiced buttermilk before being fried.

"A dip in a thin, hot honey sauce is good, but the lemon-pepper version is her love letter to Atlanta," Severson said.

Bomb Biscuits is located at 668 N. Highland Ave. Northeast.

Sitting in Savannah's Starland neighborhood, Brochu's Family Tradition was opened by Andrew Brochu and his wife and Savannah native, Sophie.

"Mr. Brochu, a former star in the Alinea Group constellation, has the goods," Severson said.

Severson added Brochu's fried thighs are brined in chamomile tea and are the star of a deconstructed dinner dish that also features biscuits, chicken salad, sunchoke hot sauce and gravy.

"He’s got a lot of oysters, too, served raw, over charred bread with scallion butter or dressed in sauces like French curry. If you’re lucky, they’ll still have a slice of pie left for dessert," Severson said.

Brochu's is located at 2400 Bull St., Suite 8.
