If you didn’t already know, August is National Sandwich Month. If you want to observe it by chowing down on some of the best handhelds in America, three sandwich shops in Georgia get strong customer reviews.
The places in the Peach State that made Yelp’s review-based list of the Top 100 Sandwich Shops and their ranking nationally are:
- No. 51 Java Saga, 5145 Buford Hwy NE, Doraville
- No. 65 Jackie M’s & Son, 3308 Milledgeville Road, Augusta
- No. 84 Urban Deli, 321 Habersham St., Savannah
In its inaugural Top 100 Sandwich Shops list, Yelp said affordable sandwiches are having a moment and are increasingly going gourmet. Yelp reviewers “love all the new house-made aiolis, chutneys, pâtés, and sauces these chefs are adding to their creations,” the site. “Diners also give high praise to unique, delicious toppings like pickled vegetables and olive tapenade, as well as the artisanal breads like fresh ciabatta, garlic bread, or pretzel buns.”

Google users also gave strong customer reviews to the Georgia sandwich shops. Here’s a sampling of what they had to say:
A customer review of Java Saga said: "Finally tried Java Saga and it was just as good as I hoped it would be. Tried the ABC sandwich, regular hot, which was absolutely colossal," wrote pcarruth2 on Google. "The chicken was easily the size of two regular sandwiches at Chick Fil A. Super crunchy breading and nice juicy chicken, definitely thigh meat. The slaw and the sauce on top were delicious and the bun held up well despite the moisture."

A Google review of Jackie M's & Son said: "First time eating here, got the original cheese steak and fries. The cheese steak was excellent and the fries were perfect, crispy, hot, and well seasoned! Will definitely come back the next time I'm in the area. Staff was friendly. Order took 15-20 min, but there are plenty of signs saying it's not fast, it's cooked to order."
A Google review said of Urban Deli: "Finally had a chance to try this place I’ve heard so many good things about. And they were all true! My friend and I had two of the best sandwiches we have tasted in a very long time," reviewer Greg Hall wrote. "Everything is so fresh, and many things are locally sourced. What a wonderful and delicious place! I highly recommend."
