3 Dead, 2 Officers Shot After Hours-Long SWAT Standoff

The standoff came to a violent end early Friday morning when a barricaded gunman turned the weapon on himself after killing two hostages.

STOCKBRIDGE, GA — Three people are dead and two Henry County police officers are recovering from their injuries after an hours-long SWAT standoff came to a violent end early Friday morning. Police said the gunman who shot the officers late Thursday morning and then barricaded himself inside a Stockbridge subdivision home turned the gun on himself and killed a woman and her 16-year-old son.

Anthony Tony Bailey, Jr., 47, of Atlanta has been identified as the gunman. Sandra Renee White, 39, and her son, Arkeyvion White, 16, both of Stockbridge, were the victims. Police said Sandra White was about 36 weeks pregnant; police said her body was found in the garage, while her son's body was found in an upstairs bedroom. Bailey was found in an upstairs back bedroom.

SWAT teams fired several rounds of gas into the home in an unsuccessful attempt to get Bailey to surrender. This bodycam footage was taken from one of the officers:

Police were responding to an unknown-trouble call at 10:46 am Thursday morning in the Eagle Ridge when the incident began. One of the officers was struck in the hand and the other in the torso, and both were taken to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta. One officer was taken by air, while the other by ambulance.

The names of the two officers have not yet been released, but police did describe both as being in their 30s and both of them being with the department for at least seven years.
