GEORGIA — Summer is almost here, and it is time to start planning those getaways to surf, sand and sun.

With that in mind, Condé Nast Traveler has named its top 17 beach destinations on the East Coast, including Georgia's Tybee Island.

Along the coast, Tybee and Savannah are neighbors in the Peach State. Condé Nast considered Tybee to be great for day trips due to its "small-town vibe" and its "long stretches of sandy beaches."

Tybee is home to five picturesque settings: North Beach, South Beach, Mid Beach, Back River Beach and Little Tybee Island.

According to Condé Nast, North Beach is ideal for anyone in search of quietness, while South Beach is for people who desire a bit more excitement in their day.

The writer recommended Original Crab Shack for partaking in meals.

However, Tybee boasts multiple restaurants for diverse cuisine. Zunzibar offers meals inspired by the beach, while Tybean Coffee Bar brews more than a hot cup of joe.

Seafood is a luxury at some of the local eateries, including at Rock House Bar and Grill, where burgers and salads are also on the menu.

There are three bed and breakfast options on Tybee and a number of activities, as well.

Other southern towns considered among the best on the East Coast are Siesta Key, Florida; Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; Pawleys Island, South Carolina; Nags Head, North Carolina; Chincoteague, Virginia and Ocean City, Maryland.
