Daycare Where Boy Killed By Dogs Investigated By GA
A 2-year-old died when two Rottweilers attacked him while his babysitter napped for two hours; now, the sitter is under state investigation.
VALDOSTA, GA — Georgia officials are investigating a babysitter who police said operated an unlicensed daycare where a 2-year-old boy was fatally mauled by two Rottweilers over the weekend.
Kaimir Jones was killed Saturday after his mom dropped him off at a Valdosta daycare while she went to work, according to police and a GoFundMe she started on his behalf.
Valdosta Police said babysitter Stacy Wheeler Cobb, 48, was asleep for two hours at her Pecan Drive home, where police say the toddler in her care wandered off into the backyard and opened a kennel to release the Rottweilers. He died when they attacked him, police said.

Now, the Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning is investigating Cobb, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported Wednesday.
“This unfortunate event highlights the significant dangers associated with unlicensed child care providers,” a DECAL spokesperson told the AJC. “In Georgia, we take the safety and well-being of our children very seriously, and we are currently investigating the provider involved in this incident.”

Though Kaimir Jones was the only child there that day, police said Cobb could have as many as 10 children at her home on most days.
Cobb advertised her daycare on local Facebook groups, mother Adrianna Jones told WALB. Cobb provided references, which Adrianna Jones said led her to contact Cobb.
While at work, Adrianna Jones told WALB she had been texting Cobb to check on her child but never received a response, which was unusual.
When she arrived to the house, police told her, "My baby was gone." She told a reporter she thought that meant he had been taken to a hospital but learned otherwise when she asked if her son was OK.
Police arrested Cobb on charges of second-degree murder and second-degree cruelty to children. She was taken to the Lowndes County Jail, police said.
Lowndes County Animal Control officers took custody of the two Rottweilers, as well as a third dog that was at the home, police said.
