GA Officer Shot In Face; Suspect Arrested

A GA officer was hospitalized in the intensive care unit after being injured in a shooting in the line of duty, and a suspect was arrested.

MCCAYSVILLE, GA — A Georgia officer is recovering after he was shot in the face while responding to a call, and a suspect has been arrested in connection with the case.

McCaysville Police Capt. Brantley Worley was shot and critically injured in the line of duty around 11:15 p.m. Friday at 1st Street, McCaysville Police Chief and Public Safety Director Michael Earley said. McCaysville is located in Fannin County, about 113 miles from Atlanta.

The accused gunman, Timothy Craig Ramsey, 26, was arrested around 6 p.m. Saturday after an hours-long multiagency manhunt, Earley said.

The circumstances that led to the shooting were not immediately available, but Earley said "Ramsey ran from the scene wearing a bright green chemical-resistant type suit."

Worley suffered a brain bleed and a broken nose after being shot in the face, WAGA-TV reported.

On Sunday, Earley said he spoke with Worley and was told by doctors that brain surgery will not be necessary and that Worley may soon be moved from the intensive care unit.

"The power of prayer and God’s healing hand is stronger than the evil act committed against our officer. The devil may have thought he won, but through prayer from our community, our great state, and the entire law enforcement family, God has already shown His victory," Earley said in a Facebook post published Sunday.

" … I cannot express enough the gratitude I feel for the incredible outpouring of love and support from our community, our law enforcement family, EMS, fire and dispatch. From the bottom of my heart, I love and appreciate each and every one of you. Please continue to keep Captain Worley in your prayers as we trust in God for his full healing."

Shortly after the Georgia Bureau of Investigation issued a blue alert for Ramsey's whereabouts, Earley said Ramsey was arrested on charges of aggravated assault with intent to murder a police officer. He was booked into the Fannin County Jail, Earley said.

A GoFundMe established for Worley has met at least $10,000 of its $16,000 goal.

"We want to sincerely thank our community and the many agencies that came together during this difficult time," Earley said. "Your prayers, encouragement and support have meant so much to our department and to Captain Worley’s family. It is in moments like these that we are reminded of the strength and unity of our community."
