Georgia Gas Tax Suspension To End After Nearly A Year

The Georgia gas tax suspension started in March 2022 and ends Tuesday.

GEORGIA — The gas tax suspension in Georgia ends at 11:59 p.m. Tuesday after being in place for several months.

Gov. Brian Kemp extended the suspension for the last time Dec. 8, 2022. The pause on state gas tax started in March 2022.

In December, Kemp said residents saved more than $1 billion as a result of the tax suspension.

Gas prices in Georgia averaged about $2.81 per regular gallon, down from about $3.12 per regular gallon a year ago, AAA reported.

As of Tuesday, mid-grade was about $3.19 per gallon, premium was about $3.57 per gallon and diesel was about $4.49 per gallon, AAA reported.

The highest recorded average was in June 2022 when regular gas costed $4.50 per gallon, AAA reported.

Kemp has not indicated if he will implement a second gas tax suspension.
