Georgia University System Workers To Get $1K Bonus, Too

University System of Georgia will "mirror" state plan to pay $1,000 bonuses to staff making less than $80,000.

ATLANTA — Employees of the University System of Georgia can expect to receive $1,000 bonuses in line with other state workers.

This announcement came Friday following news earlier this week that Gov. Brian Kemp plans to reward state employees with the same amount.

During the governor’s announcement on Wednesday, Georgia House Speaker David Ralston pointed to exceptions within state government, specifically naming the University System.

“Even in those units the implementation of bonuses from other available funds, and I know that conversations about that are ongoing,” Ralston said.

Lance Wallace, the associate vice chancellor for communications said the University System of Georgia would follow suit with the state.

“We are aware of the discussions and the possibility of this action and will mirror the state,” Wallace said Friday in an email.

The state’s plan would pay the one-time pay bump to all employees making less than $80,000.

Kemp also announced a plan to give teachers across the state the same incentive pay.
