Lightning Strikes Fort Gordon Army Base, 1 Dead, 9 Injured: Reports

Lightning struck a Georgia training area at Fort Gordon, killing one and injuring nine others, according to multiple reports.

FORT GORDON, GA — Lightning that struck an army post on Wednesday killed one and injured nine others, according to multiple reports.

The Fort Gordon Range Control officials told WJBF-TV that 10 soldiers were hit by lightning around 11 a.m. Wednesday at one of the training areas. Fort Gordon is located near Augusta, about 140 miles east of Atlanta.

According to WRDW-TV, the identity of the soldier who died will be released once the next of kin is notified.
