GEORGIA — Memorial Day is Monday, May 29. It's a day for families in Georgia to honor men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military.

Historically, the weekend preceding Memorial Day has served as the unofficial start to summer, often celebrated with elaborate barbecues, hometown festivals, and three-day getaways. Coinciding with Memorial Day weekend is National Hamburger Day, which falls on May 28 every year.

The result? A plethora of military discounts, tasty takeout, restaurant specials, buy-one-get-one offers and burger deals.

Whether you’re dining out or ordering delivery, Patch scoured the internet and rounded up a few of this year’s best Memorial Day deals, offers, and freebies.

Arby’s: From May 28 to June 11, buy a burger online and receive a free sandwich or burger on your next visit to Arby’s.

Burger King: For National Hamburger Day, Burger King is giving away a free Whopper when you order at least $1 worth of food.The deal is available on Burger King’s app under “Offers.”

Firebirds Wood Fired Grill: Dine with a veteran, active duty service member, or gold star family on Monday and get an equal or lesser value entree for free.

Fogo de Chao: Military veterans and active-duty personnel get 50 percent off their food on Memorial Day. Up to three guests get 10 percent off their food as well. A military ID is required.

Fuddruckers: Select Fuddruckers locations will offer 10 to 15 percent off with a military ID. Contact your local restaurant for more information.

Golden Corral: Active duty, veteran and retired military personnel can get 10 to 20 percent off at participating Golden Corral locations with a valid military ID.

Hard Rock Cafe: Hard Rock Cafe is offering 15 percent off all food, non-alcoholic beverage and retail purchases with a valid military ID.

Joe’s Crab Shack: Parties of up to four people will receive a 15 percent discount. The deal is valid for all active members of the U.S. military, National Guard and veterans with ID.

McCormick & Schmick’s: Parties of up to four people receive a 15 percent discount. The offer is valid for all active members of the U.S. military, National Guard and veterans with ID.

McDonald’s: At McDonald’s, buy one Big Mac, 10-count Chicken McNuggets, or Quarter Pounder with Cheese and get a second for just $1.

Miller’s Ale House: On Memorial Day, Miller’s Ale House offers military personnel and veterans 50 percent off an entree of their choice with proof of service.

Wendy’s: From May 26 to June 1, Wendy’s is offering a Junior Bacon Cheeseburger for just a penny with any purchase. The offer is only valid via the Wendy’s app.
