Teen Girl Fatally Shot Mom, Stepdad At GA Home: Sheriff

A 6-year-old girl found her parents dead from gunshot wounds at their Georgia home, and her teenage sister has been charged in their deaths.

CARROLLTON, GA — A 17-year-old is facing murder charges after authorities say she fatally shot her mother and stepfather in February at their Carrollton home.

The Carroll County Sheriff's Office on Tuesday said they responded to the Carrollton Tyus Road home the morning of Feb. 20, when they found 45-year-old James Brock and 41-year-old Kristin Brock dead from gunshot wounds.

Authorities arrested their teenage daughter, Sarah Grace Patrick, on charges of two counts of murder and two counts of aggravated assault in connection with the Brocks' deaths, the sheriff's office said in a news release.

At a news conference held Tuesday, Hulsey said Patrick surrendered Tuesday morning after being told she had warrants taken out against her and is being charged as an adult.

"We know the public has been eager for answers, and we want to be clear, so have we. But bringing forth the truth responsibly and thoroughly is our highest obligation. We are proud of the unwavering commitment shown by every member of this agency, and we stand behind the process that has led us to this arrest," authorities said in the release.

The day her parents were killed, Hulsey said the couple's 6-year-old daughter found her slain parents and went to tell Patrick. Hulsey said Patrick then called 911.

"Mountains of evidence" have led authorities to identify Patrick as a suspect, Hulsey said. Others could be involved in the deadly shooting, she added, and authorities said more people could be arrested.

"It's absolutely a shock to our community," Hulsey said. "Carroll County is a great community. We very rarely have stranger on stranger crime here. ... We're not a dangerous community."

Authorities said they are praying for James and Kristin Brock's families and thank the community that "never gave up hope."
