COMMERCE, GA — A University of Georgia football player and his mother are facing reckless driving charges after the athlete was accused of driving 100 mph in a 25-mph zone, and his mother was accused of blocking responding officers during a police chase Sunday, media reports say.

Nyier Daniels, a redshirt freshman offensive lineman for the Bulldogs and a New Jersey native, was accused of speeding past Commerce Police officers who were conducting a traffic stop on his mother who was accused of running a stop sign, WAGA-TV reported.

Daniel's mother, who was not identified by name, was let go from the traffic stop but reportedly tried to block officers who chased her son through Jefferson County and onto Interstate 85, the news outlet reported.

The officers were reportedly able to get around his mother's car but they lost Daniels' vehicle around mile marker 144 and ended the chase out of safety concern, WXIA-TV reported. However, they caught up to his mother near mile marker 145 and arrested her, the report said.

A UGA football coach brought Daniels back to police in the same car used during the police chase and made him surrender, media reports say.
