Acworth Police Offers Free Gun Locks
The offer comes on the heels of the accidental shooting death of an Acworth 2-year-old late last month.

Acworth police are offering residents the opportunity to obtain gun safety locks at no cost after the accidental shooting death of a 2-year-old boy.
The gun locks are free and can be picked up at the department’s headquarters at any time between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. between Monday and Friday, the department’s Facebook page said.

On Oct. 27, police were dispatched to a home in the 1000 block of Athena Court at approximately 7:30 p.m. in reference to a person shot call. Upon arrival, officers discovered the 2-year-old son of Grant Dennington dead inside the home while Dennington and his 4-year-old son were unharmed, according to police.
Detectives investigating the scene believe the child was able to retrieve a semi-automatic handgun from a bed and accidentally shoot himself in the head with the weapon, police said.
