Acworth Policeman Saves Driver's Life

Acworth Officer's excellent timing and fresh CPR training gave the man a fighting chance until paramedics arrived.

An Acworth police officer is being hailed as a hero after he rushed into action to rescue a man without a pulse last weekend.

Sgt. Brian Hunt was driving down Old 41 Highway when he noticed a BMW off in the woods. Assuming it was just a run of the mill accident, Hunt got out of his cruiser and approached the crashed car. That’s when he saw the driver slumped back in his seat and not breathing, WSB-TV says. He’d apparently suffered a heart attack.

Hunt and several bystanders pulled the man from the BMW and Hunt began working to resuscitate him. Hunt’s CPR training, which must be refreshed every two years, was crucial as dispatchers had not yet been alerted to the incident and had not yet directed paramedics to the scene, WSB-TV said.
