Acworth Woman Allegedly Hits Son 'To Calm Him Down'
Bartow County authorities arrested the 53-year-old Heritage Way resident on a charge of battery under the Family Violence Act.

An Acworth woman who said she had to hit her son to calm him down was arrested by Bartow County authorities Saturday.
Bartow County Sheriff's Office deputies responding to a domestic violence call shortly before 10 p.m. arrested Heritage Way resident Mary Marlene Miller, 53.
Her son first denied anyone had been arguing, but said Miller, his mother, had hit him after deputies questioned him about several red marks on his chest, shoulder and neck, according to the incident report, attached.

Miller allegedly said "she had to 'calm him down' by hitting him," following a disagreement about furniture between her son and his son.
"She stated that due to his size she had to lay hands on him," a deputy wrote in the report. "I did observe a large raised red hand print on the left side of (his) chest, raised red finger prints on his right shoulder, and a raised red hand print on the left side of his neck."

Miller was arrested and charged with simple battery under the Family Violence Act.
