1 Dead, 1 Injured After Bartow Police Chase Ends With Acworth Crash

Authorities were chasing two motorcycles they say were involved in racing in Bartow County.

ACWORTH, GA — A motorcycle driver is dead, and a car passenger has life-threatening injuries, after a Bartow County police chase ended in Acworth Monday, according to the Georgia State Patrol.

Acworth Police said the chase ended with a crash in the area of Cobb Parkway and Acworth Summit Boulevard.

According to the state patrol, Bartow deputies were chasing two motorcycles around 9:15 p.m. after they were involved in racing on GA-3 near Mockingbird Road. GSP assistance was requested, and a responding trooper tried to intercept the chase at Old Alabama Road.

When the chase got closer to the trooper, deputies were chasing one motorcyle. Authorities did not say what happened to the second motorcycle.

The trooper joined the chase, which continued south on GA-3 at a fast speed and "in a reckless manner," the GSP said.

When the chase reached Cobb County, the motorcycle crashed into the right side of a Honda Accord that was turning left at the Acworth Summit intersection, the GSP said.

The motorcycle driver died at the scene, and the Honda passenger was taken to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital with life-threatening injuries. The motorcycle driver was not identified.

The GSP's Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team is investigating the crash. Acworth officers helped at the scene and were not involved in the chase.
