Acworth Woman Convicted Of Meth Possession Sentenced

Nearly 28 grams were found in an Acworth woman's home and in the defendant's personal belongings, prosecutors said.

CANTON, GA — An Acworth woman was recently sentenced to 20 years after being convicted of intending to distribute methamphetamine, Cherokee County District Attorney Susan K. Treadaway said Thursday.

Prosecutors said the investigation against Jacquelyn Elaine Moravetz, 45, began on June 16, 2023 after receiving a 911 call.

When another resident gave deputies permission to check the home, prosecutors said they saw "in plain view" drugs and drug paraphernalia.

A search warrant was then conducted, and prosecutors said deputies found multiple bags of methamphetamine that weighed nearly 28 grams in the home and in the defendant’s personal belongings.

Ultimately, Moravetz on Aug. 21, 2024 was convicted of possessing methamphetamine with intent to distribute and was sentenced to 20 years with seven years to be served in prison, prosecutors said.

However, prosecutors said the first seven years will be suspended and will become a probationary term if Moravetz successfully completes the Drug Accountability Court. She was also ordered to complete 120 hours of community service, prosecutors said.

“Drug distribution affects every member of our community, leaving a lasting and harmful impact," Assistant District Attorney Rebecca Visockis said in a news release. "Too often, these dangerous substances end up in the hands of children."
