Cobb Crash Kills Woman, Injures Multiple Others

Police said a vehicle was attempting a turn when it crossed paths with another vehicle, causing the two to crash.

ACWORTH — A 50-year-old woman was killed Monday in a two-vehicle crash that caused multiple others to suffer from serious injuries at Cobb Parkway and Black Acre Trail, Cobb County Police said Wednesday.

Police said the crash happened around 8:30 p.m. at the Cobb/Black Acre intersection.

A black 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee, driven by a 36-year-old Powder Springs man, was traveling south on Cobb as it neared the intersection, police said.

Simultaneously, a gray 2019 Hyundai Sante Fe, driven by a 53-year-old Dallas woman, was turning left onto Black Acre from Cobb and crossed into the path of the Jeep, police said.

The front of the Jeep crashed into the passenger side of the Hyundai, causing the Hyundai to overturn, police said. The Hyundai then landed on its passenger side on the corner of the intersection off of the roadway.

The preliminary investigation revealed a black 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee, driven by Curtis Johnson (36, Powder Springs), was heading south on Cobb Parkway and approaching the intersection with Black Acre Trail.

The Jeep uncontrollably rested north in the second southbound lane on Cobb. The driver of the Jeep reported an injury but was not taken to a hospital for medical care, police said.

Angela Smith, a 50-year-old Kansas City woman, was a passenger in the Hyundai and died of her injuries, police said. The driver of the Hyundai and two other passengers had serious injuries and were taken to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital, police said.
