Here are the top three stories today in Alpharetta-Milton:

1. Residents in Alpharetta's Chelsea Walk neighborhood recently spotted a young bear strolling along the Alpha Loop. City officials say the region's lush woods and abundant water sources make it a popular locale for the bears, which are typically gentle. Residents are advised against feeding or actively engaging with the bears, and are encouraged to keep their outdoor areas clean to avoid surprise furry visitors. (11Alive.com WXIA)
2. Milton residents driving along Mayfield Road may encounter construction as part of the Milton Community Trail Prioritization Plan. The project includes adding another crossing to the current sidewalk on Mayfield, as well as developing a multi-use path that will connect to Milton's downtown. In the coming months, the City of Milton requests drivers to remain mindful of construction crews, as well as to stay up to date with project updates from the city.(City of Milton, Georgia - Government via Facebook)
3. Fulton County commissioners have unanimously voted to extend the Fulton County Jail's contract with Alabama-based healthcare provider NaphCare. The decision comes after the case of Lashawn Thompson, who died in a bedbug-infested cell on the psychiatric floor in 2022 due to what an independent autopsy labeled as "severe neglect." The commissioners' vote includes an additional $4.8 million in funding, 6 percent raises for employees, and authorization to hire 13 more staff members to support NaphCare's services until the year's end.
