  1. Alpharetta’s municipal election for this fall has been canceled. The reason is that all of the candidates are running unopposed: they are Mayor Jim Gilvin, and Council Members John Hipes and Dan Merkels. In addition, Council member Jason Binder is not running for re-election, and Fergal M. Brady is running unopposed for his seat. Canceling the election will save the city nearly $380,000, which can be used for other initiatives. (City of Alpharetta GA via Facebook)
  2. Milton residents can register for the City’s upcoming free household hazardous waste collection event. If you sign up, you can bring items to the Cambridge High School parking lot (as accessed via Cogburn Road) between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 9. Here is a link to register https://form.jotform.com/232354514745153; there are 300 slots available. You can also bring latex paint that day, which will be accepted with a fee as part of a fundraiser for the Cambridge High School Theatre. (City of Milton, Georgia - Government via Facebook)
  3. If you go to the Alpharetta Farmers market, check out the Lemonade with a Purpose booth. It was started by Cooper Garrison-Brook, a 12-year-old from Johns Creek after he needed money to replace a broken laptop. His family works in the booth and donates over one third of the profits to charity. To date, the booth has donated over $6,800. "Its current recipients are the Rainforest Awareness Rescue Education Center, Discovering My Purpose and Save the Children." (Appen Media)
  4. Are you looking for a new mansion in our area? Former Atlanta Falcon Kroy Biermann has asked a judge for permission to sell his house owned with reality star and estranged spouse Kim Zolciak. The home is in Alpharetta's Manor Golf & Country Club and is valued at over $3 million, according to Zillow. It has six bedrooms and nine baths. According to Biermann, the couple is in significant debt and needs to sell as quickly as possible. (Subscription - The Atlanta Journal Constitution)
