Here are the top three stories today in Alpharetta-Milton:

  1. On Tuesday night, Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis swore in new members of the LGBTQ+ Advisory Committee, aiming to educate legal and law enforcement professionals about emerging trends. With regular meetings and the inclusion of a hate crimes victim witness advocate, the committee focuses on enhancing safety measures for the LGBTQ+ community in Fulton County. Willis also emphasized that those who commit hate crimes against the LGBTQ+ community will be prosecuted "to the fullest extent of the law." (FOX 5 Atlanta)
  2. The Milton City Council recently greenlit an agreement to design trails, habitat improvements, and drainage upgrades at Milton City Park and Preserve. The 24-month project will include 1.25 miles of new trail, habitat enhancements, and the replacement of the old stormwater system. Funding from the American Rescue Plan Act, TSPLOST, and the Georgia Outdoor Stewardship Program will support the endeavor. (Subscription: The Atlanta Journal Constitution)
  3. The completion of metro Atlanta's largest highway construction project, the I-285 interchange at Ga. 400, is expected this year — but minor work such as repaving could extend into 2024, depending on winter weather conditions, according to the Georgia Department of Transportation. The project, initially set for completion in 2020, faced delays due to additional bridge replacements, unexpected utility line relocations, labor shortages, and supply chain challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite ongoing inconveniences, the $800 million interchange is anticipated to enhance traffic flow once all construction is finalized. (Subscription: The Atlanta Journal Constitution)
