- The Alpharetta Department of Public Safety wants to help you prevent having a fire in your garage. You can place a heat alarm to let you know if a fire has started, so you leave your home and call for help. The leading cause of garage fires is electrical problems; make sure your house is checked for any potential problems by a licensed electrician. Any flammable materials should be stored in "flame resistant storage units." Those materials include paint, fuel and varnish. Remove any clutter that could help fuel a fire. - The deadline to apply for Alpharetta's Scarecrow Harvest is tomorrow, Friday, Sept. 8. The scarecrows will be on exhibit in downtown Alpharetta from Sept. 28-Oct. 30, and judging will take place on the week of Oct. 9. The winners for different categories will be announced on Oct. 21. - Milton High School students and Milton's first responders have placed 3,000 American flags with the names of all 9/11 victims on the high school's front lawn. There will be a ceremony on 9/11 where JamesD’Avolio, a former New York firefighter, will speak. He was in New York that day searching through the rubble.
