  1. The Alpharetta Department of Public Safety wants to help you prevent having a fire in your garage. You can place a heat alarm to let you know if a fire has started, so you leave your home and call for help. The leading cause of garage fires is electrical problems; make sure your house is checked for any potential problems by a licensed electrician. Any flammable materials should be stored in "flame resistant storage units." Those materials include paint, fuel and varnish. Remove any clutter that could help fuel a fire. (Alpharetta Department of Public Safety via Facebook)
  2. The deadline to apply for Alpharetta's Scarecrow Harvest is tomorrow, Friday, Sept. 8. The scarecrows will be on exhibit in downtown Alpharetta from Sept. 28-Oct. 30, and judging will take place on the week of Oct. 9. The winners for different categories will be announced on Oct. 21. 3. Milton High School students and Milton's first responders have placed 3,000 American flags with the names of all 9/11 victims on the high school's front lawn. There will be a ceremony on 9/11 where JamesD’Avolio, a former New York firefighter, will speak. He was in New York that day searching through the rubble.
