- Are you interested in getting some exercise, having fun with your neighbors, and contributing to a great cause? Join the Alpharetta Mayor’s Corporate Challenge 5K Race, which will take place on Thursday, Sept. 21 in downtown Alpharetta. In addition to the race, there will be games, bouncy house, food trucks, adult beverages and fun for the entire family! The race is a Peachtree qualifier and proceeds will benefit local groups supported by Alpharetta Rotary. Here is a link to additional information. (Mayors Challenge)
- Kudos to Alpharetta High School's Cynthia Bai and Yohance Badyal; they "won third place in the American enterprise project competition at the Future Business Leaders of America National Leadership Conference!" They both just started their junior year and have put together a program to educate other students on free enterprise with a focus on small businesses. They competed with 69 other teams in their category. Over 8,700 high school students competed in this conference, which took place in Atlanta. (Appen Media)
- Is your child interested in art? Check out the Kidcreate Art Studio's programs, which are held at Milton's City Park and Preserve's Community Center. There are many options including "Smart Art," which combines S.T.E.A.M. (science-technology-engineering-art-math) with art in creative ways. These classes are for children ages 5-12 and are held on Wednesdays. Another option is "Our Favorite Friends" classes, which are for children 2-5. There are other programs as well, including mini camps during school holidays. (City of Milton, Georgia - Government via Facebook)
- Four years ago, a newborn infant left by her mother was discovered in the woods in Forsyth County in a plastic bag. Karima Jiwani has been charged with two counts, one to "commit murder and one count of cruelty to children in the first degree," according to Forsyth County. She may face additional charges in the future. It does not appear that the child's father was aware of the pregnancy. Since then, the child has been adopted and no additional details have been provided. (11Alive.com WXIA)
