Over the weekend, Alpharetta residents were urged to remain cautious due to the bear wandering around Highway 9. According to the Alpharetta Department of Public Safety, the bear was struck by a vehicle and then ran into the woods behind The Hotel at Avalon. Experts say not to approach the injured bear and to contact the Department of Natural Resources or local law enforcement if sighted. (Columbus Ledger-Enquirer)
- Fulton County officials announced they will begin monitoring wastewater for monkeypox and COVID-19. Untreated wastewater will be collected from the county's treatment plants and regularly tested to measure a number of viruses. According to officials, “Through regular testing of the wastewater, the County and Emory University can measure the amount of the viruses and see whether the levels are increasing or decreasing within the area served by the treatment plant.” (WSB Atlanta)
- Chief Judge Robert McBurney will not allow Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis to investigate possible interference in the 2020 election in Georgia by state Senator Burt Jones. The judge agreed with Jones that it would be unfair if Jones was compelled to testify since Willis held a fundraiser for Charlie Bailey, Jone's opponent. (FOX 5 Atlanta)
- Former Alpharetta Municipal Court Judge Barry Zimmerman retired suddenly after a June Georgia Judicial Qualifications Commission (JQC) report suggested there was "reasonable cause" that he "violated the code of judicial conduct." Recently, it was discovered that Zimmerman presided over thousands of cases argued by a solicitor who had hired him to be her private attorney. This conflict of interest may have triggered the JQC investigation. (Atlanta Journal Constitution)
