  1. According to the Alpharetta Department of Public Safety, a Jul. 18 house fire on Calypso Drive in Alpharetta was caused by a power strip that was placed on top of a blanket. The sprinkler system in the home extinguished the fire before fire crews arrived, and no injuries were reported. (The Georgia Sun)
  2. On Jul. 18, a 36-year-old Alpharetta man apparently traveled to Chicago and fatally shot his 29-year-old estranged wife. Chicago police found both the suspected gunman and his wife fatally shot in her home after Alpharetta police requested a well-being check. The gunman's family had reported him missing from Alpharetta. There was a suicide note, but the names have not been released publicly yet. (ABC 7 Chicago)
  3. On Jul. 18, the Alpharetta City Council decided to end its contract for glass recycling. Curbside pick-up for glass recycling will end on Aug. 12. Assistant City Administrator James Drinkard said on Jul. 18, "The city has not yet found another option for glass recycling for residents." (The Atlanta Journal Constitution)
  4. The Milton City Council recently approved a new contract with BM&K to negotiate right of way acquisition for the Morris Road widening project. The Georgia Department of Transportation's new McGinnis ferry Road/Ga. 400 interchange project, which is under construction, will create more traffic for Morris Road. Morris Road will become a four-lane divided road to help handle the additional traffic. (The Atlanta Journal Constitution)
