Here are the top five stories in Alpharetta-Milton today:

  1. Postal inspectors are investigating claims that checks put in the mail at an Alpharetta post office have been stolen and had the dollar amounts changed. Due to the investigation, the collection boxes at the Webb Bridge Post Office have been taped off to prevent use. The post office urges community members who suspect their mail may have been stolen to call the local police and put their mail on hold. (WSB-TV)
  2. Milton City Council will hold two back-to-back meetings this evening at City Hall. A Work Session meeting begins at 6:00 p.m. discussing agenda items relating to the budget and the former Kennedy property purchased using greenspace bond funds. A Special Called Meeting will immediately follow, resulting in the second of three public hearings on the millage rate. (City of Milton)
  3. It is the final week for Alpharetta's curbside glass recycling program. City homeowners are asked to put their glass out on their normal scheduled day, and a crew will come and collect the bins as well. Starting Aug. 15, Alpharetta residents are asked to put their glass in their regular trash. (City of Alpharetta)
  4. Five new homes have been listed for sale in the Alpharetta-Milton area. Available properties range from a 1,924 sq. ft., 4-bed, 4-bath home for $560,000 to a $1,425,000 home with 5 beds, 6 baths, and 6,178 sq. ft. Get all the details at the link. (Alpharetta-Milton Patch)
  5. About 200 customers in Fulton County were without water on Saturday morning. A water main break occurred just outside of Peachtree Corners, affecting those around Nesbit Ferry Road between Rivermont Parkway and Holcomb Bridge. (11Alive.com WXIA)
