  1. At the Aug. 1 meeting, the Alpharetta City Council approved a land use request for an off-leash dog park and restaurant located at a busy downtown area. The dog park will be at Old Milton Parkway and South Main Street. (The Atlanta Journal Constitution)
  2. Cary, North Carolina and other cities are looking to Alpharetta as a model for redevelopment. Alpharetta's redeveloped districts include Avalon, City Center, and North Point. (The Atlanta Journal Constitution)
  3. Fulton County Schools Superintendent Dr. Mike Looney announced multiple changes for the new school year. Students at Fulton County schools will no longer be allowed to use their cell phones in class, unless given permission by their teacher. Fulton County Schools have also hired more campus security and security camera software, in addition to the already established school police force. The schools will also have a new emphasis on reading. (WSB TV)
  4. To alleviate severe overcrowding at the Fulton County jail, a new plan suggests the Atlanta city detention center temporarily lease 700 beds to Fulton County. The Atlanta City Council and Fulton County commissioners still need to approve the final deal. (CBS 46)
  5. Devil's Foot Beverage Company, a craft soda maker specializing in farm-to-can beverages, announced a new partnership with Modern Hops, an Alpharetta-based distributor. Modern Hops is Georgia's only independent craft beverage distributor. In early August, Modern Hops's retail customers will be able to purchase Devil's Foot craft sodas at local Georgia stores.
