  1. Are you the parent of a toddler who would like to make some new friends? Next Tuesday, there will be an event at Milton City Park and Preserve Community Center from 9-11 a.m. called “Toddler Tuesday.” It's for children ages 1 to 4 and their parents. It's free and there are additional playgroups scheduled monthly. Here is a link to more information about these events plus other ones coming up in Milton: www.miltonga.gov/CommunityActivities.

The class starts on Aug. 15 and will take place on Tuesday and Thursday from 5:30-7 p.m. at the Alpharetta Arts Center. • The Alpharetta Department of Public Safety wants to recognize staff who have recently had service milestones. Fire Apparatus Engineer Randy Wade, Administrative Generalist Pam Futch, Sergeant R.J. Rodriguez and Senior Police Officer Brent Noble have all been there for 10 years. In addition, Firefighter Adelle MacFarlane has been there for five years. Thank you for your dedication! (Alpharetta Department of Public Safety via Facebook)

  • Did you know that you're more likely to get a snake bite when the weather is hot? An Emory study shows that the possibility of a Georgian going to the ER for a snakebite increases 6 percent for each one degree Celsius temperature increase from the prior day. The reason is that warmer snakes can move more quickly; they are more active when temperatures are warmer. Snakebites are pretty rare; there were a total of 533 in Georgia last year.
