Here are the top stories today in Alpharetta-Milton:
- A group of citizens met recently to discuss plans for the intersection of Bethany Bend and Bethany Creek Drive in Milton. The goal is to make driving in this area safer and better for pedestrians. Current plans include a "small roundabout, two medians, crosswalks (two with flashing beacons for pedestrian crossings of Bethany Bend) and filling in sidewalk gaps." Construction is planned to start in early 2024. If you have questions or comments about this project, contact Robert Dell-Ross at robert.dell-ross@miltonga.gov. (City of Milton)
- A Milton resident has been sentenced to prison for his role in the attack on the U.S. Capital on Jan. 6, 2021. Bruno Cua, 21, attended the event and assaulted a Capitol Police Officer after separating from his parents. He then ran into the Senate Gallery and sat in the Vice President's chair. Prior to the attack, Cua posted online about his plans to interrupt the certification of election results. After being released from prison, Cua will have supervised release. (Appen)
- School starts next Monday, and there will be more drivers on the road, traffic near schools and children crossing the street. In addition, school speed zones will be in effect again. The Milton Police want to remind motorists to allow for extra time when driving near schools and to drive safely. Milton Police will be stationed near the schools to remind drivers that school has started. (Milton Police Department via Facebook)
- Do you enjoy working with plants or want to learn more about them? The Alpharetta Community Agriculture Program is looking for volunteers! If you volunteer, you will learn about plants, flower arranging, farming and don't need to have any experience. For example, every Thursday between 8:30-10:30 a.m. through August, a group creates bouquets for North Fulton Charities. If you would like to plan a volunteer day for a large group, or if you would like to offer other skills (mowing grass, tool maintenance, etc.) please email Kristen at korr@alpharetta.ga.us.
