"I am a Fugitive from a Chain Gang!"
The movie screening is part of UGA's Spotlight on the Arts Festival.

The University of Georgia Press is screening "I Am a Fugitive from a Chain Gang!" (1932), followed by a question-and-answer session Wednesday at 7:00pm. The movie is based on Robert E. Burns's autobiography, published in 1932, when he was still running from the law, and subsequently reprinted by the University of Georgia Press. The event is part of the Spotlight on the Arts festival, the UGA Press 75th anniversary and University Press Week.
The movie tells the story of a WWI vet (Robert Burns) who fell in with petty thieves and ended up on a county chain gang. He escaped, made his way to Chicago and lived well for seven years. He was arrested as a fugitive from justice, sentenced to a chain gang again--and AGAIN escaped to the North.
The movie is being shown in the Richard Russell Special Collections Library auditorium. There is no admission charge.
